It’s also a
promise about a kind of game.

In the 90s, multi-user dungeons (MUDs) ran entirely in text — and yet they were richer,
stranger and more social than most of what came after. No textures, no cutscenes; just words, a
prompt, and your imagination doing the rendering. They triggered the mind in a way pixels rarely do.

Open Source

A consultancy’s best credential is verifiable work. Over the years I’ve contributed to the
open-source projects that the platforms I run are built on — implementing features, maintaining
releases, and giving back to the Cloud Foundry & BOSH community.

Services

OnlyASCII is a one-person consultancy with the depth of a much larger team in one specific place:
running platforms reliably. Engagements typically start with Cloud Foundry or BOSH and grow into
broader reliability, automation and platform-engineering work.

whoami

I consider myself, primarily, a software engineer — one who acted on the frustration of
continuously breaking systems and decided to find and fix the root causes. Early in my career I
started automating anything that felt like a boring or repetitive task, and found I had a knack for it.

I was acting as a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer before those roles had names. From the
mainframes of yesteryear to the cloud-native architectures of today — Puppet, Chef, Jenkins,
Vagrant; I was there. Infrastructure as Code, continuous integration and containerisation came as a
natural evolution. I can’t go back to anything else. I want to go beyond.

Work

Since 2019, OnlyASCII Ltd has delivered production-engineering and SRE work for organisations
running Cloud Foundry at serious scale — government, banking and enterprise platforms, including
air-gapped and highly-governed environments. The engagements marked via OnlyASCII were delivered
under the company; earlier roles show where the expertise came from.
